Zanzibar isn't just one big beach. It is an incredibly diverse island. Choosing the right region is the single most important decision you will make for your holiday. Let's break it down!

The North Coast (Nungwi & Kendwa)

The North Coast is famous for having the most "classic" paradise beaches. Unlike the rest of the island, this area is not heavily affected by extreme low tides, meaning the ocean is almost always ready for a swim.

  • The Vibe: Lively, vibrant, and bustling. Great for nightlife and sunset parties.
  • Best For: Swimming all day, luxury mega-resorts, and travelers who like a busy atmosphere.
  • Must Do: A traditional Dhow sunset cruise.

The East Coast (Paje, Jambiani, Matemwe)

The East Coast has a much more bohemian, relaxed, and "eco-chic" atmosphere. It is world-famous for its steady winds, making it a global hub for kite surfing. The tide here retreats very far during the day, revealing a fascinating landscape of coral pools and seaweed farms.

  • The Vibe: Chill, barefoot luxury, and youthful.
  • Best For: Kite surfers, backpackers, boutique eco-lodges, and long beach walks.
  • Must Do: Explore the Kuza Cave in Jambiani.

The West Coast (Stone Town)

You cannot visit Zanzibar without experiencing its historical heart. Stone Town is a labyrinth of ancient alleys, Persian baths, and heavy carved doors. While there are no sweeping white sand beaches here, the culture is unmatched.

  • The Vibe: Historical, aromatic, and culturally rich.
  • Best For: Foodies, history buffs, and a convenient base for booking island excursions.
  • Must Do: The Forodhani Gardens Night Market.

Toyo's "Split Itinerary" Secret

Don't lock yourself into one hotel for 10 days! The best way to experience Zanzibar is to spend 2 nights in Stone Town to do your historical tours and spice farm visits, and then move to a beach resort (North or East) for the rest of your relaxing holiday. We arrange smooth transfers between all of them!
